Hetzner Cloud

4.0/52dm rating

Good prices, has Singapore; the interface leans technical.

Cloud servers from Hetzner (Germany), known for good prices, with a Singapore location and hourly billing capped at a monthly price.

Overview

Hetzner Cloud is the virtual server service of Hetzner, a long-established infrastructure provider in Germany. You create a Linux cloud server with full freedom to install Docker, n8n, Coolify, databases or websites, and it is very popular in the self-hosting community thanks to its good specs-to-price ratio.

Cloud servers are available in Germany (Falkenstein, Nuremberg), Finland (Helsinki), the US (Ashburn, Hillsboro) and Singapore. For customers in Vietnam, Singapore gives lower latency, but each plan in Singapore comes with a different amount of outbound traffic and exceeding the quota is charged extra, so compare prices by location on the official site.

Hetzner suits teams with someone who knows Linux administration: you handle security, updates and backups yourself, and in return infrastructure costs are usually comfortable for long-running projects.

Highlights

01

Singapore location

Besides Europe and the US, Hetzner has cloud servers in Singapore, closer to Southeast Asian users.

02

Hourly billing with a monthly cap

You pay for the hours used but never more than the plan's monthly cap.

03

Only outbound traffic is charged

Inbound and internal traffic are free, and each plan includes a set amount of outbound traffic.

04

Multiple machine lines

A shared-CPU line and a dedicated-vCPU line for heavy loads.

05

Favored by the self-hosting community

Many community guides for installing n8n, Coolify and Docker on Hetzner.

What it's for

An n8n server running 24/7

Self-host n8n with PostgreSQL to run workflows with no limit on runs, paying only for the server.

A self-managed PaaS

Install Coolify on one server to deploy several of the business's small applications.

Backend for AI applications

Run APIs, queues and a vector database serving an internal chatbot.

Staging environments

Create a temporary server to try a new version, then delete it after use so you pay only by the hour.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Create an account and project

Sign up for Hetzner, verify your information and create a Project in the Cloud Console. Note that the currency chosen when creating the account cannot be changed later.

  2. 2

    Create a server

Choose a location (Singapore if serving Vietnamese customers), the Ubuntu operating system and a suitable machine type.

  3. 3

Add an SSH key and Firewall

Attach an SSH key when creating the server and create a Firewall that opens only the ports you need.

  4. 4

    Install applications

Log in via SSH, install Docker, then run n8n, Coolify or your application with HTTPS.

  5. 5

    Turn on backups

Enable Backups or create a snapshot before each major upgrade.

How To Self Host N8N In 10 Minutes, Hetzner + Coolify

Santhej Kallada

Real-world example

Illustrative scenario

A small marketing agency in Ho Chi Minh City is paying for several automation tools billed per run. A technician rents a Hetzner cloud server in Singapore, installs Coolify, then deploys n8n and PostgreSQL. The workflows that post to social media and sync leads from forms to the CRM are moved here; the firewall opens only the web and SSH ports, and a snapshot is created before each n8n update.

Tips & notes

  • Delete the server to stop billing

A powered-off server is still billed until it is deleted; use a snapshot if you want to keep the data.

  • Monitor outbound traffic

Hetzner sends notifications at 75% and 100% of the included traffic but does not block automatically; exceeding it is charged extra.

  • Compare prices by location

Prices and included traffic may differ between Singapore, Europe and the US; check the official site before choosing.

  • Harden the server from the start

Disable password login, use SSH keys, turn on the Firewall and update the operating system regularly.
