Claude Code

Claude Code
Powerful for developers and multi-step work; requires a paid plan and is not aimed at beginners.
Anthropic's agentic coding assistant: reads your whole codebase, edits multiple files, runs commands and works with Git using plain-language instructions.
Overview
Claude Code is an agentic coding tool developed by Anthropic. Instead of just suggesting code line by line, it explores the project, makes a plan, edits several files at once, runs checks and reports back for you to review.
It is available on many surfaces: the terminal, extensions for VS Code and JetBrains, a desktop app, the web version at claude.ai/code, Slack, and even GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD. These surfaces share one core, so a project's CLAUDE.md guidance file, settings and MCP servers work everywhere.
For small businesses, Claude Code is well suited to building internal tools, writing automation scripts, fixing website bugs or connecting systems through MCP without needing a large development team.
Highlights
Understands the whole project
Reads files on its own when needed, so you don't paste context manually; just describe what you want done.
Works directly with Git
Review changes, create branches, write commits and open pull requests with everyday language.
Connects tools through MCP
Link Google Drive, Jira, Slack or your company's own tools via the open Model Context Protocol standard.
Customizable for teams
CLAUDE.md stores project conventions, skills package repeatable workflows, and hooks run commands automatically before or after each action.
Runs in parallel and on a schedule
Can split work across multiple sub-agents and set up recurring tasks in the cloud or on a desktop machine.
Usable in scripts
The claude -p mode lets you plug Claude Code into pipelines, CI or bulk log processing.
What it's for
Build internal tools
Quickly create an order management page, a report or a custom data-entry form for your company.
Fix and maintain websites
Paste an error message and let Claude Code trace the cause and propose a fix.
Write tests and tidy code
Add tests where they are missing, fix lint errors, update libraries and README docs.
Automate code review
Add it to GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD to review pull requests and triage issues.
Write integration scripts
Create scripts that sync data between software or process Excel and CSV files on a schedule.
How to use it
- 1
Prepare an account
You need a Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan, or a pay-as-you-go Claude Console API account. Have a terminal and a project folder ready.
- 2
Install (macOS with Homebrew)
On macOS, Linux and WSL you can also use the native install command in the official docs. The native build updates itself, while Homebrew must be upgraded manually.
$brew install --cask claude-code - 3
Install on Windows
Open PowerShell and install via WinGet. It is best to also install Git for Windows so Claude Code can use Bash tools.
$winget install Anthropic.ClaudeCode - 4
Check the installation
Open a new terminal window and run the command below; if it prints a version number, the install succeeded.
$claude --version - 5
Start in a project
Move into the project folder and type claude. The first run asks you to sign in through the browser.
$claude - 6
Give it a first task
Ask what the project does, then request a small change and review the diff. Press Shift+Tab to switch permission modes.

Real-world example
A cosmetics store in Da Nang runs a self-built website and often exports orders to Google Sheets by hand. The only technical employee opens Claude Code in the project folder and describes in Vietnamese a script to export new orders daily with an empty-data check. Claude Code reads the database structure, proposes a plan, writes the script and tests, runs it and creates a commit for the employee to review. Work that used to wait on outsourcing is now handled in-house right away.
Tips & notes
Write specific requests
Describe the symptom and what you want, for example a blank screen after entering a wrong password, rather than just saying fix the bug.
Create a CLAUDE.md file
Record code conventions, preferred libraries and test commands so every session follows the same standard.
Let it explore before editing
Ask it to analyze the structure or make a plan first, then let Claude Code make changes.
Break big jobs into steps
List steps such as creating the data table, writing the API and building the interface so results are easier to control.
FAQ
Is Claude Code free?
There is no free version. You need a paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise) or a Console account billed by API usage.
Can I use it if I don't know the terminal?
Yes. You can use the desktop app, the web version at claude.ai/code or the VS Code extension, and the official docs also include a terminal guide for beginners.
Does Claude Code edit code on its own?
It depends on the session's permission mode. In the default mode it asks before making changes and you can approve step by step.
Can I use it together with Cursor?
Yes. Claude Code has an extension that installs directly into Cursor and VS Code.
